It's good to hear of others doing stuff with OpenSim. There are some aspects of Second Life that just don't fit with what I'd really like to provide for my students, and a customised version of OpenSim might just do the trick.Ian Truelove : Cubist Scarboroughhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17670605357608848237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541768917310656836.post-36894729521787346212008-12-05T19:31:00.000-08:002008-12-05T19:31:00.000-08:00Great Post Ian. I've casually looked in on the Open Habitat project now and then, being very interested in a Real world Education project dabbling with Opensim/SL. My own use of Opensim is in the development of Realworld industrial tutorials, Training employees in the orientation of a real Warehouse.

I've not yet used a hosted Server for Opensim, concetrating instead on building an internal network based server..... but i do highly recommend using the Hippo Viewer http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=235285 , Which is a customised version of the SL opensource viewer. The viewer is easily configured to point to a specific web based Opensim world, and can be tweaked to an individual Grid or standalone world. ideal for a closed circuit education sim, behind a firewall etc. Sorry I'm reading and replying to your post after an evening of merryment, I'll sign off, but do let me know if you need any further info on my Babbling.Yasai Nukihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05532317810467915255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541768917310656836.post-58722332294189817322008-12-05T19:20:00.000-08:002008-12-05T19:20:00.000-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Yasai Nukihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05532317810467915255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541768917310656836.post-26895428711437558222008-12-05T03:28:00.000-08:002008-12-05T03:28:00.000-08:00Thanks for the link Peter. An on demand service might provide us with an easier way to do this.Ian Truelove : Cubist Scarboroughhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17670605357608848237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3541768917310656836.post-11716054545081803682008-12-05T03:05:00.000-08:002008-12-05T03:05:00.000-08:00Possibly not quite what you want (single user afai...Possibly not quite what you want (single user afaik) but OpenSim in the "cloud" http://www.vintfalken.com/sim-ondemand-opensim-on-ec2/Peter Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17811527782413146351noreply@blogger.com
